When Samantha gave a simple holiday gift to a friend, it unexpectedly became the foundation for what is now DBT Gifts. The candle featured an irreverent quote in relation to life's challenges, and soon became a hit! Others were interested in gifts to graduates as a meaningful keepsake to recognize the hard work they had invested in their career goals, and building relationships to last a lifetime. What started as a single handmade gift quickly flourished.

As demand grew, she began expanding beyond candles by developing a variety of products centered around topics to promote encouragement, wellness skills, and personal growth. One of her favorite projects has been creating bookmarks which keep these varied themes front and center each day.

The success of those bookmarks inspired Samantha to think more broadly about motivation and engagement. Bookmarks with themes that extended to more topics, appealed to readers of all ages. Some were created specifically to encourage children and teens to spend more time reading and less time glued to their devices. It has been rewarding to hear from parents, teachers, and professionals who appreciate tools that make reading more engaging and enjoyable.

Today, DBT Gifts includes products related to music, pop culture, and other interests that bring people joy and connection. Samantha finds creative ways to combine humor, inspiration, and practicality into items people can use every day. Many creations begin with an idea sparked by a conversation, a quote, a song lyric, or wellness concept.

The supplies she uses vary depending on the project. Candle-making involves wax, fragrance oils, wicks, containers, labels, and design materials. Bookmark creations incorporate specialty papers and hand-selected beads and charms chosen to complement each design and theme. Much of the process involves experimenting, learning, and refining ideas until they become something both meaningful and visually appealing.

Although Samantha does not come from a traditional arts and crafts background, creativity has always been part of her life. She enjoys creating things that serve a purpose and have a positive impact on others. Seeing a client receive a graduation gift, a reader become excited about a new bookmark, or someone smile at a candle message that speaks to their experience, makes the work especially fulfilling.
